I am preparing to make a move which will have to include significant downsizing.<p>Going through my digital hardware for the last 10 years or so, I notice I have a desktop, a laptop, and a tablet (currently in use). Also 2 old laptops also an older phone hanging around (not in use).<p>It is apparent now that I need to have good solid backups of current devices and dispose of / sell old devices not in use.<p>Desktop and all laptops are dual booted both linux and windows, which unfortunately makes straightforward backups difficult (at least for me).<p>My questions to HN:
- How did you manage such moves in the past as it pertains to your electronic (desktop or handheld) devices ?
- Are there any easy ready-made solutions to backup "whole devices" and/or "consolidate" old devices into one?
- What are your recommended hardware options (any particular external hard drives that you would recommend)?
- What are available recommended easy-to-use software options (disk imaging and backup software) ?
- What are secure ways to safely dispose of personal data on your drives before selling/giving away/disposing of devices?
- What are your preferred environmentally-friendly way to destroy old electronic devices?
