Happy New Year, HN!
I’m building my own lightweight automated-testing framework from scratch based on WebDriver Protocol. My goal right now is purely learning - starting with smoke tests (the basics) and gradually moving to more advanced scenarios. Smoke tests are quick checks that a site’s core functionality works; they don’t need user credentials or sensitive data, so the risk is minimal.
Quick note: I’m a learner exploring automated testing. Because of that, I’m still getting familiar with some of the technical terms and best practices, so I appreciate your understanding and guidance.
I’m looking for a few collaborators who would let me run smoke tests on their sites, focusing on any specific test scenarios that matter to them. I will respect your rules, such as: limiting traffic to X requests per second, running only during agreed-upon times, using a custom User-Agent, etc.
Before each run, we’ll discuss and agree on test scenarios, constraints, and the reporting format. The scripts I write will remain private; I’ll share only the results.
Because I’m still learning, responses (input -> output) may be a little slow - just a heads‑up.
My learning objectives are: building a lightweight automated testing framework based on WebDriver protocol, designing test scenarios (scripts), producing/designing useful test-report results (format).
I'm seriously concerned about legal and ethical issues. Trust and credibility matter to me, so I'm asking for guidance on how to handle them given my goals. Would requesting a DNS TXT record be a good idea? Something that could serve as a green-light to run the tests - though I’m open to other approaches that might be more appropriate.
Thank you very much in advance.
